BrainJar is built to help you capture and organize your thoughts. We respect your privacy and are committed to being transparent about how your data is handled.
When you use BrainJar, we collect the content you create, including thoughts, folders, habit entries, and sharing activity. We also collect basic account information such as your name, email address, and timezone.
We do not collect data from third-party sources, and we do not use BrainJar to track your activity outside the app.
We use your information to provide, maintain, and improve BrainJar. This includes organizing your thoughts, generating insights, powering AI features, and enabling sharing and collaboration.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your content for advertising.
BrainJar uses artificial intelligence to classify your thoughts, extract metadata, generate insights, and power features like Weekly Digest, Monthly Mind, and Patterns.
Your thought content is sent to OpenAI (our AI processing provider) for classification and analysis. OpenAI processes this data under their API data usage policy, which states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train their models. We send only the minimum content necessary for each feature.
AI-generated outputs (categories, topics, summaries, insights) are stored alongside your data to power the app experience. AI-generated outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or not relevant in every case. We do not build hidden profiles about you beyond the insights generated from your content.
We use the following third-party services to operate BrainJar:
• Supabase — Database hosting, authentication, and serverless functions
• OpenAI — AI-powered thought classification and insight generation
• Expo / EAS — App build and push notification delivery
• Apple / Google — In-app purchase processing and app distribution
These providers process data on our behalf and are required under their agreements with us to protect your information. We do not share your data with providers beyond what is necessary to operate the service.
Your data is stored on managed cloud infrastructure provided by trusted third-party hosting services. We use industry-standard security practices to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest.
Your thought content, folders, sharing records, and habit data are stored securely and are only accessible to you and any collaborators you explicitly invite.
While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.
You can export a copy of your data at any time from Profile → Export My Data. Exports include your thoughts, folders, sharing history, habits, and profile information in a human-readable format.
Export files are temporary and expire after 24 hours. You may create up to 3 exports per day. Internal system data, processing metadata, and AI enrichment fields are not included in exports — only the content you created and can see in the app.
When you share a thought or invite someone to a folder, the shared content becomes visible to those recipients according to the permissions you set. Collaborators can only see content within the scope of their assigned role (Owner, Editor, or Viewer).
You can revoke sharing access at any time. We do not make your content publicly visible or discoverable by other users without your action.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete individual thoughts or folders, they are removed from active systems. When you delete your account, we process the deletion of your data accordingly.
Some data may be retained briefly in encrypted backups or where required for security, fraud prevention, or legal obligations. Temporary data such as export files is automatically cleaned up after expiration.
BrainJar may send push notifications for reminders, collaboration updates, and other app activity. You can manage or disable notifications at any time through your device settings or within the app.
BrainJar is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove that information.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by other appropriate means. Your continued use of BrainJar after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
